LAHORE: In a tragic incident, a 7-year-old child was shot dead by a security guard at a farmhouse in the Chohang area of Lahore, ARY News reported on Sunday. The child, who had been playing cricket nearby, went to the farmhouse to drink water when the security guard, identified as Nazir, opened fire killing the child on spot. According to the police, Nazir was apprehended while attempting to flee to Okara from a local bus stand, while the murder weapon was also recovered from the arrested guard. The incident has been officially registered based on a complaint filed by the child’s father. The FIR further states that a few days prior to the incident, Nazir had warned the child not to drink water from the farmhouse. On the day of the incident, when the child returned to the farmhouse, Nazir fired at him, leading to his death. ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) has withdrawn from today’s constitutional amendment process, calling for more time to review the proposed legislation, ARY News reported on Saturday, citing sources. Sources close to the development revealed that the JUI-F has expressed concerns about rushing through the amendments without enough consultation and suggested the government not to take any hasty decision. During a meeting, the final draft of the amendment was presented to JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who suggested that more time is needed to discuss the implications of the changes. JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghori stated that Maulana Fazlur Rehman has also conveyed to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari the need for a one-day delay to allow for thorough consultation. LAHORE: A high-level committee formed to probe the Lahore private college incident finalised its report, recommending measures to end spread of fake news on social media, ARY News reported. The committee comprising chief secretary Punjab, advocate general Punjab, secretary interior, secretary higher education, and secretary special education in its report maintained that the students need to differentiate between positive and negative activities. “Effective measures are needed to curb hate speech and fake news on social media. Influencers and vloggers should promote positivity and counter harmful content,” the report read. The committee also recommended further investigation into alleged hate speech and fake social media accounts. The report also emphasised the need for responsible social media usage and increased the vigilance to prevent similar incidents. Karachi Police on Friday arrested over 20 workers and leaders of the PTI for violating Section 144 by staging a rally in Saddar’s Empress Market, demanding the release of party founder Imran Khan, according to police and party officials. Separately, supporters of the religiopolitical party Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) staged their own demonstration in the Saddar area protesting the death of a party supporter during a rally on October 13. The protesters clashed with police, leaving seven cops injured, including a lady constable. PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui announced on Thursday that major parties had reached a consensus on “90 per cent” of the points in the much-touted constitutional package, adding that it would be presented in the Senate tomorrow. The much-talked-about Consti­tutional Package is legislation proposing a set of constitutional amendments, including the extension of the top judge’s term. Three separate drafts of the constitutional package were being prepared — one by the government, the second by the PPP, and the third by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). A committee, led by PPP’s Khursheed Shah, has the representation of all parties, including the PTI.
