Shehbaz seeks probe into ‘expensive’ LNG purchase

LAHORE: PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has demanded a thorough investigation into buying of the ‘most expensive’ LNG by the Imran Khan government in the country’s history. “This procurement has cost the country $422.4 million extra. The PTI government repeatedly lied to the nation on the matter as it has bought LNG for $15 per mmbtu which the PML-N bought for $8 per mmbtu,” the National Assembly opposition leader said in a statement here on Saturday. He said on every shipment of LNG the PTI government was wasting an additional $22.5m. “On four of such shipments a whopping $95m of nation’s money will be wasted. The people will be paying $15 per unit in the current month which was unbearable,” he said and added that during the global peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, LNG was available at much cheaper rates but the government intentionally delayed the procurement. He reminded that the PML-N had demanded that this cheap LNG should be bought. “In September 2021 Pakistan will pay $387m for L

Biden pushes cash reward to get vaccinated, new rules for federal workers

WASHINGTON: President Joe Biden on Thursday urged local governments to pay people to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and set new rules requiring federal workers to provide proof of vaccination or face regular testing, mask mandates and travel restrictions. The measures are Biden’s latest attempt to spur reluctant Americans to get vaccinated as the Delta variant of the coronavirus surges nationwide, infecting unvaccinated people in particular. The United States lags other developed countries in vaccination rates, despite having plenty of free vaccines on hand. White House efforts to urge the hesitant to get vaccinated have hit a wall of anti-vaccine sentiment, misinformation, and political division. Biden’s decision to require millions of federal workers and contractors to show proof of vaccination is a departure from a previous opposition to so-called vaccine passports. It shows the White House taking a tougher stance towards circumstances within Biden’s control as the virus spread

The minister had said that minimum spending was made on security of federal cabinet members and the major portion of the amount was being spent on the security of judges. He had said that cabinet had decided to constitute “threat committees” in provinces and territories where the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf is in power to cut down on “excessive spending” on security protocols of “important personalities”. The IHC’s registrar in a letter addressed to the interior secretary and the chief commissioner of Islamabad, has said that the competent autho
