Police register case of alleged target killing in Karachi’s Soldier Bazaar

KARACHI: A case has been registered against the alleged target killing of two citizens including an ex-cop named Javed Baloch in Karachi’s Soldier Bazaar, ARY News reported on Friday. Police registered a case against the alleged target killing of ex-cop Javed Baloch over the complaint of his brother Khalid Hussain under the sections of murder. The complainant stated in the First Information Report (FIR) that he is a government employee and his brother Javed Baloch went to the central jail for recording his statement in the Arshad Pappu case. He said that his brother was attacked by unidentified assailants when he was returning home from the anti-terrorism court (ATC). Hussain further stated that he was informed by his friend that his brother got attacked by armed men, whereas, his cousin Musadiq was also killed. Govt raises petrol, high speed diesel prices by Rs4

The government increased the prices of petrol and high speed diesel (HSD) by Rs4 per litre, according to a statement issued by the Finance Division late on Friday. The statement said the new prices will be effective from January 1 (Saturday). "In the fortnightly review of petroleum products prices, Prime Minister [Imran Khan] has rejected the proposal of Ogra (Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority) for an increase in prices of petroleum products and advised to increase only Rs4 per litre to meet the petroleum levy target agreed with the IMF (International Monetary Fund)," the statement read. The Rs4 increase in the price of petrol is part of a commitment made by the government under an agreement with the IMF for a net fiscal adjustment of almost Rs550 billion during the remaining part of the current fiscal year. At least 4 killed, 15 injured in blast on Quetta's Jinnah Road

At least four persons were killed and 15 others injured in a blast near Science College on Quetta's Jinnah Road on Thursday night, officials said. Balochistan Health Department media coordinator Dr Wasim Baig confirmed the death toll in a statement issued soon after the incident. Separately, Civil Hospital Quetta Medical Superintendent Dr Javed Akhtar — who had initially said that three bodies and 13 injured had been brought to the hospital — also confirmed to Dawn.com that the death toll from the blast had risen to four and the number of injured to 15. Over 7000 children die of pneumonia in Sindh: report

KARACHI: Pneumonia claimed the lives of more than 7000 children under the age of five this year in Sindh, according to Sindh Health Department. According to the Sindh health department official, as many as 7,462 children have died and 27,136 children under the age of five have been affected by the deadly pneumonia virus in Sindh in 2021. The statement further said that more than 46 children over the age of five and 8,534 people — including children and adults — suffered from Pneumonia in 2021. FBR officers escape unhurt in gun attack in Lahore

LAHORE: Unidentified assailants have carried out a gun attack on the vehicle of senior officers of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Lahore, ARY News reported on Monday. Two FBR deputy commissioners, Salman Ali and Ali Solangi have miraculously escaped unhurt in a gun attack carried out by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle in the vicinity of the Muslim Town police station. CDWP refers K-IV water supply project to ECNEC

ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Monday recommended two projects worth Rs191.2 billion to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) for approval. During the meeting, presided over by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, the Ministry of Water Resources presented a project of ‘Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme’ K-IV 650MGD (revised) at a cost of Rs191.2 billion before the committee. The project was presented with the reduced scope and cost for 260MGD water at Rs126 billion. The meeting was attended by Planning secretary Abdul Aziz Uqaili, senior officials from the Planning Commission and officials from the federal ministries/divisions. Five people shot dead over old enmity in Bannu

BANNU: At least five people including father and his two sons were gunned down on Sunday over old enmity in Bannu, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ARY News reported. According to police, the firing incident between two families occurred within the limits of Saddar police station of Bannu district. The incident occurred due to old enmity between the groups, said the police. Getting information of the incident, the rescue teams reached the spot and moved bodies to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities. The further investigation was underway, said police. 41 killed in Burkina Faso ambush including volunteer leader

Militants killed 41 people last week in an attack in northern Burkina Faso, including the prominent leader of a volunteer group helping the country's military, the government said.
