ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has summoned the Director-General (DG) of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Director Law in sou motu case of perceived interference in high-profile cases, ARY News reported on Tuesday. According to details, the Supreme Court has issued written order of the hearing – held on May 27 – of the sou motu case. The apex court has sought the record of those who left the country after the amendment to the Exit Control List (ECL) rules. The SC said that the amendments to the ECL rules were applied from the previous dates. “It remains to be seen whether the ministers who benefited from the amendment distanced themselves from the cabinet meeting,” it added. The Supreme Court also sought reasons from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to remove the names of the accused from the ECL. Woman allegedly gang-raped on Karachi-bound train

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped on a train heading to Karachi from Multan last week, it emerged on Monday. The victim was on board the Bahaudin Zakaria Express when ticket-checkers and other staffers of a private firm subjected her to sexual assault on Friday (May 27), the spokesperson of the Pakistan Railways said in a statement. FO rejects notion of Pakistani delegation’s visit to Israel

KARACHI: Police said that the management of Pearl Continental (PC) has not recorded the statement in the roof collapse incident that occurred yesterday, ARY News reported on Friday. Russia opens cases against Google, other foreign tech over data storage

Russia’s communications regulator Roskomnadzor said on Friday it had opened administrative cases against Alphabet Inc’s (GOOGL.O) Google and six other foreign technology companies for alleged violations of personal data legislation. Moscow has clashed with Big Tech over content, censorship, data and local representation in a simmering dispute that has erupted into a full-on information battle since Russia sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24. Russia fined Google 3 million roubles ($46,540) last year for not storing the personal data of Russian users in databases on Russian territory, and on Friday said it had opened a new case over what it called Google’s repeated failure to comply with Russian legislation. ISLAMABAD: The federal government has surrendered before the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and announced a massive hike in petrol and diesel prices up to Rs30 per litre, ARY News reported on Thursday. While addressing a press conference today, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said that the government has decided to increase the prices of petroleum products which will be taken into effect tonight at 12:00 midnight. The finance minister announced to hike the petrol, diesel, light diesel and kerosene oil prices up to Rs30 per litre. After the recent hike, the new price of petrol will be Rs179.86 per litre, high-speed diesel (HSD) Rs174.15, kerosene oil Rs155.56 and light diesel Rs148.31 rupees. India has no immediate plans to lift a ban on wheat exports, but will continue with deals which are done directly with other governments, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal told Reuters. The world’s second biggest producer of wheat banned private overseas sales of the grain on May 14 after a scorching heatwave curtailed output and domestic prices hit a record high. IMF presses Pakistan on 'urgency' of removing fuel, energy subsidies for programme revival

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday emphasised upon Pakistan the urgency of "removing fuel and energy subsidies" to achieve programme objectives. Finance Minister Miftah Ismail had earlier this week said he would convey to the IMF that fuel and energy subsidies — which were introduced by the previous PTI government — could not be reversed as the "nation cannot endure it". But in a statement issued earlier today, the IMF said it had "emphasised the urgency of concrete policy actions, including in the context of removing fuel and energy subsidies and the FY2023 budget, to achieve program objectives".
