KARACHI: Police said that the management of Pearl Continental (PC) has not recorded the statement in the roof collapse incident that occurred yesterday, ARY News reported on Friday.

The roof of a hall inside Pearl Continental (PC) hotel collapsed leaving two dead and at least three injured. The roof collapsed when a function was going on inside the hall at PC hotel.

Police said that the investigation is being carried out by the district administration while the probe team is comprised of experts from different institutions.

The police department said that the families of the wounded and deceased persons in the roof collapse incident did not contact the police for the registration of case.

The officials said that statements of the wounded persons were recorded, however, the hotel management did not record its testimony as yet.

Police said that it was apparently an accidental case.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed.
