RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) summoned former federal minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in National Crime Agency (NCA) £190 million Scandal or Al-Qadir Trust Case, ARY News reported on Monday.

According to details, the former interior minister has been directed to appear before the anti-corruption watchdog in person tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11am.

As per the NAB notice, Sheikh Rasheed was also asked to bring along all documents related to the case.

Earlier on May 24, Sheikh Rasheed ‘skipped’ NAB’s appearance for a probe in National Crime Agency £190m scandal.

Sheikh Rasheed was asked to appear before the NAB as a former member of Imran Khan’s cabinet which passed the decision for the settlement of £190m from the United Kingdom.

Sheikh Rasheed in his response denied receiving any written notice from the NAB and added the name under which he received the notice, has died a year ago.

Citing dire threats in response to the NAB, Sheikh Rasheed said police are raiding his house for the arrest.

Al-Qadir Trust case

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had launched an investigation against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and others for the alleged gain of hundreds of canals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, which reportedly caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer.

As per the charges, the Khan and others accused allegedly adjusted Rs50 billion — 190 million pounds at the time — sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government.

Former PM Imran Khan had registered Trust for Al-Qadir University Project on Dec 26, 2019.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had changed the title of the Al-Qadir Trust case to ‘National Crime Agency £190m Scandal’.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract.
