Govt pursuing digitalisation program in health sector: minister

Caretaker Minister for Health Services Dr Nadeem Jan said Sunday that the government is working on digitalisation program to bring about improvement in health sector as well as tangible results.

Speaking at a seminar title Role of Digital Health System in Islamabad today, he said with the coordination of provinces, health related data is being integrated to formulate comprehensive reforms.

The minister said digitalisation program will help in collection of accurate, concise and clear results for future challenges.

He expressed the hope that Digital Health Centre will help in reforms and improvement of all programmes being carried out in the country.

Earlier in the month, Caretaker Federal Minister for Health Nadeem Jan had said that the Global Health Security Summit will be held in Pakistan on January 10-11.

In a statement, the minister said that holding the summit is an honour for Pakistan. He said that an integrated strategy to deal with global epidemics will be formed at the global summit.

He said that the Islamabad declaration would be issued at the end of the conference. He said that Pakistan’s prestige in the field of health will be raised by hosting the world summit.

The minister said, “Hosting Global Health Security conference shows that Pakistan is leading in the field of health.”

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. He said that all the necessary resources and facilities had been provided for the digital gateway initiative. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed. While the Iranian section of the pipeline has been completed, the Pakistani section remains under construction and subject to delays owing to concerns with regard to the US sanctions on Iran.
