Dr Ishrat Hussain’s resignation as PM’s adviser accepted

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi on Tuesday accepted Dr Ishrat Hussain’s resignation as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Institutional Reforms and Austerity.

President Alvi accepted his resignation on the recommendation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Dr Hussain has been de-notified as the PM’s aide. Following his resignation, the number of the premier’s advisers has reduced to three.

Dr Babar Awan, Abdul Razak Dawood and Shehzad Akbar are currently serving as the prime minister’s advisers on parliamentary affairs, trade and investment, and accountability, respectively.

Dr Hussain held a farewell meeting with Prime Minister Khan earlier today. He had been a part of the federal cabinet since August 2018.

Husain is a Pakistani banker and economist who served as the dean of the Institute of Business Administration from 2008-2016 and the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan between the period of 1999-2006.

Karachi police to probe DIG Azfar Mahesar’s son’s viral firing videos

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar ordered an inquiry after Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) East Azfar Mahesar’s son Asher’s aerial firing videos went viral on social media, ARY News reported. Earlier, video footage showed DIG Azfar Mahesar’s son brandishing different kinds of weapons and resorting to aerial firing in several videos posted on social media. Asher was seen in different locations, sometimes in a moving car, relentlessly conducting aerial firing. Speaking to ARY News, Lanjar said that he has ordered Karachi police to do a forensic examination of the videos and initiate action against DIG Mahesar if he is found guilty in the case. CJCSC addresses participants of 53rd PN Staff Course

RAWALPINDI: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza on Thursday visited Pakistan Navy War College Lahore and addressed the participants of the 53rd PN Staff Course. According to a press statement issued by the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), the CJCSC expressed his views on the armed forces’ efforts in confronting the multifaceted conventional and non-conventional challenges. General Sahir Shamshad Mirza said that the Pakistan Navy has always fulfilled the expectations for the protection of maritime borders. “The Pakistan Navy has a proud history of bravery and sacrifices for the motherland,” the CJCSC added. Earlier upon arrival, General Sahir Shamshad Mirzaki was welcomed by Commander Rear Admiral Azhar Mahmood.
