Karachi police arrest suspect for ‘rape of minor girl’ in Surjani Town

KARACHI: Karachi police claimed to have an 18-year-old boy for allegedly raping a minor girl in Surjani Town’s Saiful Maree Goth, ARY News reported on Monday.

The rape suspect has been arrested by police officials after the registration of a case against him by the relatives of a minor girl aged 13.

Police officials told the media that the boy and the girl were ‘friends’ and he allegedly subjected the minor, 13, to rape after calling her to meet him.

They claimed that the parents of the accused pressurised the police after his arrest and said that they will marry their son to the victim girl. Police revealed that the boy is 18 years old and it is legally impossible to marry him to an underage girl.

Police said that the victim girl was summoned to record her statement.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed.
