Soldier martyred in South Waziristan IED blast

RAWALPINDI: A Pakistan Army soldier was martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in South Waziristan district’s Asman Manza on Monday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military’s media wing said the blast occurred during clearance operation by security forces.

The martyred soldier was identified as Sepoy Wajid Ullah, 25, who is a resident of Karak.

The ISPR said the troops immediately cordoned off the area to apprehend terrorists involved in planting the IED. During an intense exchange of fire, one of the terrorists trying to flee got killed, it added.

On Sunday, two soldiers had martyred in a cross-border attack as terrorists from Afghanistan across the international border opened fire on a military post in Bajaur.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract.
