PIA approached to trace passenger who left mobile phones at Peshawar airport  

PESHAWAR: Customs officials have approached Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to trace the passenger who left a bag of 141 expensive mobile phones at Peshawar airport, ARY NEWS reported.    

The Customs has sought complete details regarding the passenger from the PIA with sources saying that he could be traced from the boarding tag pasted at the luggage.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that a bag full of expensive mobile phones was found at Peshawar’s Bacha Khan Airport.

Sources said an unidentified passenger who arrived at the airport from Dubai on board a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight, PK-284, abandoned the bag and fled.

It seems the man left the bag out of fear of getting caught for sneaking a large number of smartphones into the country, they said.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials took into their custody the bag which contained as many as 141 mobile phones and later handed it over to customs officials.

The sources said a hunt was launched to trace the passenger with the help of CCTV footage.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed.
