CTD arrests ‘terrorist’ during Gwadar IBO, seizes explosive material

QUETTA: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested a ‘terrorist’ during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Gwadar and seized explosive material from his possession, ARY News reported on Monday.

The CTD spokesperson said in a statement the arrested terrorist was associated with the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The CTD officials recovered 1,878 grams of explosive material, a 66-inch prima cord and a detonator from his possession.

The spokesperson added that the department expedited efforts to arrest other members of the network.

Earlier on January 26, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had arrested a member of a banned outfit during a raid conducted in Peshawar.

CTD Sindh officials conducted a raid in Peshawar in collaboration with the law enforcement agencies and arrested a key member of the outlawed group from Peshawar, CTD sources here said.

Two accomplices of the arrested suspect were killed a few days back in Ghotki, sources said. “The accused were involved in terrorism and sectarian crimes in Balochistan,” according to sources.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks.
