12 police officials wounded in van-tractor collision on Mehran Highway

KHAIRPUR: At least 12 police officials including woman cops sustained wounds in a collision between a van and tractor-trolley near Pacca Chang on Mehran Highway, ARY News reported on Sunday.

A private van carrying the police officials and a tractor-trolley collided head-on at Pacca Chang Mehran Highway, leaving 12 police officials including four woman cops injured.

Police said that three wounded officials are in critical condition. The police added that the cops were travelling in a private vehicle.

Earlier in January, at least five people including two women had lost their lives in a collision between a car and a truck in Badin.

A car had collided with a truck at Badin-Hyderabad highway, resulting in the death of five including two women.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. He said that all the necessary resources and facilities had been provided for the digital gateway initiative. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed.
