Watch: Woman tries smuggling gold stitched to burqa, held at airport

A woman smuggling gold by stitching it as beads to her burqa has been arrested by authorities in Hyderabad, India. 

Gold worth over Rs 41 lakh and weighing 350 grams were seized from a passenger at Shamshabad International Airport in Telangana’s Hyderabad, on Sunday.

The gold was concealed as beads and coated with rhodium metal. A case has been registered against this passenger and further investigation is underway.

Another similar incident of gold smuggling had taken place at this very airport when Customs officials had confiscated gold worth INR1.36 from a passenger.
The passenger had flown in on flight 6E 025 from Dubai. Reportedly, 2.71 kg of gold was recovered from him, which was hidden in his luggage.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed.
