DUBAI: Talented expatriates living and working in Oman can very soon apply for a long-term residence visa, the state news agency said.

The development was announced by Khalid Al Shuaibi – head of the National Programme for Investment and Export Development.

Speaking during a presentation on the 2021 annual report of the Oman Vision 2040, Khalid Al Shuaibi confirmed that the country is considering expanding the investor residence programme to include the categories of creators and innovators.

“After implementing the first phase of the programme, we discovered that there is an increasing demand from other potential categories of some innovators and important segments of the economy that we are seeking,” Al Shuaibi said.

He clarified that a proposal has been submitted to the Council of Ministers that includes new target groups, and it will be announced as soon as the proposal for the second phase of the residency programme is approved.

“The new categories proposed in the second phase include creators, innovators, programmers and entrepreneurs as important human capital for the national economy,” he added.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks.
