KARACHI: Director General of Civil Aviation Authority (DGCAA) Nader Shafi Dar has announced that all Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) planes will undergo thorough inspections, as efforts to lift the ban on flights to Europe intensify, ARY News reported on Monday.

Following the arrival of the International Aviation Organization’s audit report, the European ban is expected to be lifted by November.

Shafi expressed optimism about the upcoming increase in commercial flights to Pakistan and highlighted Pakistan’s air safety measures as the best in the region, surpassing those of India.

In a related move, the CAA has issued new guidelines regarding Passenger Name Records (PNR).

Passengers will no longer be prevented from boarding due to discrepancies between their PNR at booking and travel time.

This decision follows multiple complaints from passengers who were previously denied boarding under such circumstances.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. He said that all the necessary resources and facilities had been provided for the digital gateway initiative. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed.
