LAHORE: President Arif Alvi will administer the oath to newly elected Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi after Governor Punjab Baligh ur Rehman refused to do so, ARY News reported on Tuesday. 

According to details, Governor Punjab Baligh ur Rehman has excused himself from administrating the oath to Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi despite orders from the Supreme Court.

Sources told ARY News that Pervaiz Elahi and PTI leaders have reached the Governor House but he was not allowed to enter its premises.

In a statement, President’s Office confirmed that the oath-taking ceremony of Punjab Chief Minister will now be held at Aiwan-e-Saddar at 2am. Pervaiz Elahi will reach Islamabad via a special plane.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court today declared Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari’s ruling in the Punjab Chief Minister election “illegal” and ruled that Pervez Elahi will be the new CM of the province.

The apex court ordered the Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman to administer the oath to Elahi at 11:30pm. The SC also nullified all appointments made by ‘trustee CM’ Hamza Shahbaz.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed.
