Fawad Chaudhry says ‘CJP possessing cypher’s copy’

Missing cypher: ‘Govt wants to divert attention from audio leaks’

Barbados wins first loan deal from IMF climate change fund

Barbados on Tuesday became the first country to secure agreement on a financing package under a new IMF fund aimed at helping low-income countries deal with the impacts of climate change. A team from the Washington-based lender agreed with the island nation’s government on a $183 million package through the Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST) launched earlier this year. The proposed deal “will provide financing to support the country’s climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts, and support Barbados’ ambitious goal of transitioning to a fully renewable-based economy by 2030,” said Bert van Selm, who led the IMF mission to Barbados this week. The country still has to gain approval from the International Monetary Fund’s board and must negotiate a more traditional loan program, as required by the terms of the RST. Barbados has requested a three-year, $110 million aid package under the Extended Fund Facility to accompany the other financing, van Selm said in a statement.

LAHORE: At least 22 suspects have been arrested by Lahore police for torturing the anti-encroachment team and assistant commissioner (AC) City, ARY News reported on Wednesday. Cabinet allows import of 300,000MT urea for Rabi season

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has allowed the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) to import 300,000 metric tonnes of urea on a government-to-government basis for the upcoming Rabi season. The federal cabinet, which met in Islamabad with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the chair, gave this approval on the recommendations of the Ministry of Industrial Production. The cabinet also approved constitution of a steering committee, comprising all the relevant federal ministries, provincial governments, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir under Living Indus Initiative. It emphasized on including the initiative in the curriculum of schools and colleges to create awareness at the grass root level. Gold price falls in Pakistan on rupee appreciation

KARACHI: The gold prices continued a downward trend in Pakistan on third consecutive day as per tola price of the precious yellow metal decreased by Rs6,800 in the domestic market on Tuesday, ARY News reported. According to the All Pakistan Jewellers Manufacturers Association (APJMA), per tola gold price in the local market dropped by Rs1,450 to settle at Rs141,850. Bangladesh boat tragedy death toll hits 51

KARACHI: A gang of ‘drug peddlers and gamblers’ allegedly stormed a house and brutally tortured women for lodging a complaint against them in Karachi’s Gulberg area, ARY News reported on Sunday. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police on Saturday arrested senior journalist Ayaz Amir in the murder case of her daughter-in-law, Sara Inam, who was killed by his son in Islamabad’s Chak Shehzad suburb, ARY News reported. World Bank ‘envisaging’ $2bn financing for Pakistan flood victims

ISLAMABAD: The World Bank said on Saturday it is “envisaging” financing of $2 billion for Pakistan to rehabilitate and restore people’s lives following devastating floods that have killed over 1,600 people in the country since mid-June.   “We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and livelihoods due to the devastating floods and we are working with the federal and provincial governments to provide immediate relief to those who are most affected,” Raiser was quoted as saying in a World Bank press release . “As immediate response, we are repurposing funds from existing World Bank-financed projects to support urgent needs in health, food, shelter, rehabilitation, and cash transfers,” he said.
