Gold price falls in Pakistan on rupee appreciation

KARACHI: The gold prices continued a downward trend in Pakistan on third consecutive day as per tola price of the precious yellow metal decreased by Rs6,800 in the domestic market on Tuesday, ARY News reported.

According to the All Pakistan Jewellers Manufacturers Association (APJMA), per tola gold price in the local market dropped by Rs1,450 to settle at Rs141,850.

Likewise, the price of 10 grams of gold also decreased by Rs1,243 to Rs121,614.

The Pakistani rupee on Tuesday extended its recovery against the US Dollar, appreciating by Rs3.30 in the interbank.

According to the forex dealers, the local currency gained Rs3.11 against the US dollar in the interbank market.

The local currency closed at Rs233.91 per dollar — an appreciation of 1.33 per cent from yesterday’s close of Rs237.02, according to the State Bank of Pakistan.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. He said that all the necessary resources and facilities had been provided for the digital gateway initiative. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed.
