PML-N lawmakers trade barbs during NA session

PML-N ministers, trade barbs, during NA session

ISLAMABAD: Two lawmakers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) engaged in a verbal faceoff during the National Assembly (NA) session, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

PML-N lawmakers Murtaza Javed Abbasi and Javed Latif engaged in a heated debate during the National Assembly (NA) session, with both sides using abusive language.

However, the situation was diffused with the intervention of Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Attorney General Naseer Tarar, Kamar Zaman Kaira, and Agha Rafique Ullah, who separated two party leaders.

Sources told ARY News that the argument broke out when Federal Minister Javed Latif was not allowed to speak in the house.

Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that the government cannot violate the Constitution by issuing funds to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for holding general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Supreme Court’s (SC) orders.

Speaking on the National Assembly (NA) floor, the finance minister lambasted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for dissolving Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies and said the move was aimed at spreading “anarchy” in the country.

Ishaq Dar alleged that the trouble started after Supreme Court (SC) redefined Article 63-A of the Constitution which resulted in the handover of Punjab government to PTI.

“If Article 63-A of the Constitution had not been redefined, the assemblies would not have been dissolved,” he said, criticising the apex court to “interfere in politicians’ domain”.
