Caretaker PM assures resolution of issues of coal mining industry

QUETTA: Caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Saturday assured to resolve issues of the coal mining industry in Balochistan, ARY News reported.

The caretaker PM made the assurance while talking to a delegation of coal mining companies from Balochistan.

The delegation informed the prime minister about the issues faced by the coal mining industry.

PM Kakar asked the companies to ensure the protection of miners working in the coal mines.

He said Balochistan was rich in natural resources, adding benefits could not be achieved from mining without adopting international standards.

Federal ministers Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti, Shahid Ashraf Tarar, Sami Saeed, Caretaker Chief Minister Balochistan Ali Mardan Domki, and provincial ministers and officials attended the meeting.

It is pertinent to mention here that Caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar arrived in Quetta for a three-day visit to Balochistan.

On his arrival at Quetta Airport, he was received by Interim Chief Minister Ali Mardan Khan Domki and other high ranking officials.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. He said that all the necessary resources and facilities had been provided for the digital gateway initiative. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed. While the Iranian section of the pipeline has been completed, the Pakistani section remains under construction and subject to delays owing to concerns with regard to the US sanctions on Iran.
