A 70-year-old paralyzed woman died after being slapped and smothered by her caregiver in India’s Kolkata city.

A disturbing CCTV footage has also surfaced which showed the caregiver slapping and torturing the bed-ridden woman due to paralysis.

On September 11, one of her caregivers found Kala dead in her bedroom, after which she informed her relatives. Assuming natural death, they cremated the body of the woman, reported India Today.

However, the relatives later learnt that the woman was brutally tortured by her caregiver, Safia Khatun, after examining the CCTV cameras installed in the flat.

In the CCTV footage, Safia could be seen slapping and torturing the woman for almost the entire night on September 10.

Police arrested Safia after a relative of the woman filed a complaint against her.

During interrogation, Safia confessed that she used to torture the woman as she was disturbed by her during sleep, a senior police official said.

Another CCTV footage also confirmed that Safia tried to suffocate the woman by covering her face with a bed sheet or blanket. After the incident, Safia left the flat in the morning without informing anything to anyone.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed.
