Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson’s reaction to one of Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman’s six against Bangladesh in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Kolkata’s Eden Garden became a talking point on social media.

In the fifth over of Pakistan’s innings, the left-handed batter smashed Taskin Ahmed’s length over the boundary for a massive six. The pacer, while in disbelief, accepted the result with a smile.

The six was cheered by fans at Eden Gardens but Shane Watson, who was doing commentary in the fixture with India’s Ravi Shastri and Waqar Younis of Pakistan, was amazed by the shot.

The shot also took Ravi Shastri and Waqar Younis by surprise.

Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets on Tuesday to keep alive their slim hopes of making the Cricket World Cup semi-finals.

Chasing just 205 to win, the 1992 champions reached their target with 105 balls to spare and seven wickets intact. Fakhar Zaman made 81 and fellow opener Abdullah Shafique scored 68.

Pakistan now have three victories from seven matches but still need to defeat New Zealand and England and also hope other results fall in their favour if they are to make the last four.

Pakistan plans to transform optical fiber cable network into global digital gateway

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr Umar Saif on Wednesday said that the government had finalized a plan to transform Pakistan’s optical fiber cable network into a global digital gateway. The implementation of the proposed project would benefit Pakistan by millions of dollars, he disclosed while speaking in a high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of key organizations, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Special Communication Organization, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL), TransWorld, and CyberNet. He said that all the necessary resources and facilities had been provided for the digital gateway initiative. Progress made on Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project

ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, the Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Petroleum said that both sides will start formal contacts for the gas pipeline project within two to three weeks. The Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project has faced many delays due to the risk of US sanctions on Iran. The project remains substantially delayed. While the Iranian section of the pipeline has been completed, the Pakistani section remains under construction and subject to delays owing to concerns with regard to the US sanctions on Iran.
