Four presidential ordinances promulgated on IMF’s demand

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government promulgated four presidential ordinances on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) demand, ARY News reported. The National Highway Authority (Amendment) Ordinance 2023, Pakistan Postal Services Management Board (Amendment) Ordinance 2023, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (Amendment) Ordinance 2023, and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 have been promulgated. The secretaries of all the ministries concerned briefed the President on the urgency of the ordinances as the matter was agreed upon with the International Monetary Fund in July this year regarding the four state-owned enterprises (SOEs), according to a Press Information Department news release. The amendments in the laws of the above entities as signed by the President have been made to bring them in conformity with the State Owned Enterprises (Governance and Operations) Act, 2023, promulgated in January 2023. The petrol price has been reduced by Rs2.04 per litre, diesel by Rs6.47 per litre, kerosene oil by Rs6.05 per litre and light-speed diesel (LSD) by Rs9.01 per litre. The new price of petrol was fixed at Rs281.34 per litre, Rs296.71 for diesel, Rs204.98 for kerosene oil and Rs180.45 for light-speed diesel (LSD). In a bizarre video that went viral online, a brawl broke out between two groups on top of amusement ride.  The incident occurred in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh where a violent fight broke out between two groups at a fair in Amroha district over tickets. The viral videos of the incident showed young men exchanging blows on top of an amusement ride at the fair. A video showed chaotic scenes at the fair as the men threw kicks and punches at each other on top of the ride while others can be seen climbing the iron railing and scaling the carnival ride. Chaos reigned at the fair for a while after the fight as cops arrived at the scene, sending the miscreants running as they attempted to flee the spot. 500 primary healthcare centres to be upgraded across Pakistan: minister

Caretaker Federal Health Minister Dr Nadeem Jan said Tuesday that 500 primary healthcare centres will be upgraded in two months across Pakistan, ARY News reported. KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has decided to conduct ‘safety audit’ of all major buildings across the city after nearly a dozen people were killed in a massive fire at a RJ Shopping Mall at Rashid Minhas Road, ARY News reported on Monday. DHAKA: Bangladesh cricket superstar Shakib Al Hasan has formally entered politics and will contest parliamentary elections as he received confirmation of his nomination from the ruling Awami League. According to a report, Awami League joint secretary general Bahauddin Nasim confirmed the development, saying that the all-rounder took nomination forms on Saturday from the party to contest 2024 election. Shakib Al Hasan will be contesting from the Magura-1 constituency, his home district, with the polls scheduled for January 7. “He is a celebrity and has great popularity among the country’s youth,” Nasim said, welcoming the cricket all-rounder. At least four people were killed and dozens injured on Saturday evening in a stampede at a university in southern India, local officials and media reported. KARACHI: The caretaker Sindh government has decided to ban the sub-leasing of all properties of the Auqaf Department. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Auqaf Department held under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister for Law and Auqaf Muhammad Omar Soomro here Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Secretary Auqaf Munawer Ali Mahessar, Chief Administrator Mumtaz Chana, Additional Secretary and other officers. ISLAMABAD: Progress was made on Pakistan and Iran gas pipeline project as both countries agreed on reviving the stalled cooperation and formal contacts will be started within a few weeks. It is pertinent to mention here that Iran gave Pakistan time until September 2024 to complete the project, otherwise, it may move to international arbitration for the breach of contract. SpaceX Starship launch failed minutes after reaching space

Non-filers to face electricity, gas disconnection: FBR

ISLAMABAD: The non-filers would face the disconnection of utility connections including electricity and gas, as well as the blocking of mobile SIMs if return is not filed in response to notices issued, ARY News quoted FBR statement. As part of restructuring measures, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has established 145 District Tax Offices to bring 1.5 to 2 million new taxpayers into the tax net till June 2024. Caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwaarul Haq Kakar had stressed the importance of revenue and increasing the existing number of tax filers during recent meetings.
