Punjab CM inaugurates new Emergency Block at Jinnah Hospital

LAHORE: Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Mohsin Naqvi has inaugurated the new Emergency Block at Jinnah Hospital, comprising 150 beds, ARY News reported on Sunday. The CM visited the new emergency and reviewed provision of latest medical facilities. Mohsin Naqvi also inaugurated the medical and surgical emergency after their upgradation. He inspected the ICU and appreciated the steps being taken for the provision of latest beds. Punjab CM lauded the treatment facilities being provided in the new emergency, adding that state of the art emergency block consists of 150 beds. ISLAMABAD: The Scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by candidates for general elections 2024 has concluded today (December30), ARY News reported. Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be submitted till Wednesday and decisions on these appeals will be made by the tenth of next month. A social media influencer and dietician, Khushboo Gupta, found a live worm inside her sandwich served during Indigo Airline’s New Delhi-Mumbai flight.   Khushboo Gupta, a dietician by profession, travelled on an Indigo flight (Delhi-Mumbai flight no. 6E 6107) on December 29 where she was served a veg sandwich during the journey. However, it turned out to be a disgusting experience for her after she found a live worm inside her snack. The female passenger took to her Instagram handle and shared the video of the worm in her sandwich, further slamming the airline for serving substandard quality of food. Karachi police devise strategy against ‘drunk drivers’ on New Year’s Eve

KARACHI: The Karachi police on Saturday devised a strategy to deal with drunk drivers on New Year’s Eve in the port city, ARY News reported. In a statement, DIG Traffic Iqbal Dara said that the police will use breathalysers on New Year’s Eve to arrest drunk drivers, adding that carrying alcohol and narcotics in cars would not be allowed at any cost. “The Karachi City Traffic Police, on the instructions of the Karachi police chief and DIG Traffic, has constituted multiple teams and provided them breathalysers to deal with intoxicated drivers,” it added. The statement noted intoxicated drivers and motorbike riders along with people who indulge in aerial firing would not only be arrested but also booked while their vehicles impounded. SBP forecasts inflation to ease to 20-22pc in FY24

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Friday asserted that the inflation rate would ease to 20-22 per cent in the financial year 2023-24 (FY24) as the country heads into February 8 general elections, ARY News reported. In an annual report on the past fiscal year, SBP Governor Jameel Ahmed said the central bank will continue to take decisions to prevent high inflation from becoming entrenched and keep expectations anchored to achieve the medium term target of 5 – 7 percent by the end of FY25. Pakistan’s total liquid foreign reserves reach $12.8b

KARACHI: The total liquid foreign reserves of Pakistan increased to US$ 12,855.7 million while the reserves held by the central bank reached at $ 7,757.1 million in the week ended on December 22, 2023, ARY News reported quoting SBP. The State Bank of Pakistan, in a statement issued here on Thursday, informed that SBP’s reserves increased by $ 852 million to $ 7,757.1 million mainly due to receipt of official Government of Pakistan inflows during the week under review. Meanwhile, net foreign reserves held by commercial banks stood at $ 5,098.6 million, it added. Total liquid foreign reserves held by the country, in the previous week ended on December 15, 2023, were $ 12,068.4 million. The population of Gaza is in “grave peril”, the head of the World Health Organization warned Wednesday, citing acute hunger and desperation throughout the war-torn Palestinian territory. The WHO said it delivered supplies to two hospitals on Tuesday — one in the north and one in the south — with 21 out of 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip no longer functioning at all. A Tesla software engineer suffered serious injuries when he was attacked by a malfunctioning robot on the floor of the electric car maker’s factory in Austin, Texas. According to a British daily, the incident – which left the victim with an ‘open wound’ on his left hand – was revealed in a 2021 injury report filed to Travis county and federal regulators. The engineer was programming software that controls robots whose job it is to cut car parts from freshly cast pieces of aluminum. Witnesses told the Information last month that the robot pinned the engineer and sank its metal claws into his back and arm, leaving a trail of blood along the floor. The robot reportedly immobilised the engineer and left the victim with an “open wound” on his left hand. At least 113 people killed in central Nigeria attacks

More than a hundred people have been killed in central Nigeria in a series of attacks on villages, local government officials said Monday. The toll marked a sharp rise from the initial figure reported by the army Sunday evening of just 16 dead in a region plagued for several years by religious and ethnic tensions. “As many as 113 persons have been confirmed killed as Saturday hostilities persisted to early hours of Monday,” Monday Kassah, head of the local government in Bokkos, Plateau State, told AFP. Military gangs, locally called “bandits”, launched “well-coordinated” attacks in “not fewer than 20 different communities”, Kassah said. “We found more than 300 wounded people” who were transferred to hospitals in Bokkos, Jos and Barkin Ladi, he said. ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) has apprehended a suspect in Sector F-10 for allegedly distributing fraudulent degrees.  The FIA spokesperson stated here Saturday that Inspector Kashmif Riaz and Ehtasham Gondal, members of the FIA team, found printed degrees, certificates, fake university stamps and admission forms in the possession of the accused. ISLAMABAD: Justice Athar Minallah has penned down an additional note in the Supreme Court’s (SC) order, which approved the post-arrest bail of former prime minister Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher case, ARY News reported on Friday. A three-member bench headed by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and comprising Justices Athar Minallah and Syed Mansoor Ali Shah granted bails to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, both of whom are incarcerated at Adiala Jail, in the cipher case. KARACHI: Enraged citizens allegedly beat three suspected robbers to death in retaliation for the killing of a shopkeeper over resistance in Karachi’s Orangi Town on Thursday afternoon, ARY News reported. According to details, three robbers barged into Sheroz Aslam’s shop in Qaddafi Chowk, Orangi Town and tried to snatch his valuables, including the case.
