Another PIA crew member ‘slips’ in Canada

Another cabin crew member of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has gone missing in Canada, the national airline spokesman confirmed. A flight steward named Jibran Baloch was supposed to come back to PIA flight PK-782 in Toronto on February 29, however he did not turn up for work on the flight back to Pakistan. Jibran Baloch is the second PIA cabin crew to slip this month. On the search of Jibran Baloch’s room by the staff, it was revealed that he had slipped. According to the PIA spokesman, the alleged disappearance of Jibran Baloch has been reported to the Toronto Police and the Border Security Force. It is pertinent to mention here that a few days ago, a female air hostess named Maryam Raza also went missing from the hotel. Barrister Gohar elected unopposed as PTI chairman

ISLAMABAD: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has been elected unopposed as the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after other candidates withdrew from the intra-party elections, ARY News reported. Omar Ayub has also been elected unopposed as the General Secretary while Yasmeen Rashid emerged as President PTI Punjab chapter. ISLAMABAD: Following PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq’s nomination for NA Speaker, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has nominated Ghulam Mustafa Shah for the slot of deputy speaker of the National Assembly, ARY News reported, The announcement was made during a dinner hosted by PML-N’s nominee for prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, which was attended by leaders of PPP, PML-Q, Muttahida Qaumi-Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (PPP) and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). Petrol price in Pakistan likely to jack up

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has sent a summary to the federal government for increasing petrol to Rs3 per litre, ARY News reported citing sources. As per the details, the OGRA suggested increasing the prices of petroleum products from March 1. According to the proposal, the petrol price might jack up Rs3 per litre. The OGRA has also suggested an Rs1 per litre increase in the price of high-speed diesel. The regulatory body also suggested the federal government to jack up kerosene oil by Rs1 per litre. Meanwhile, the OGRA asked the government to reduce light-speed diesel prices by Rs0.70 per litre. The decision regarding the new prices for petroleum products will be made on February 29. PML-N clinches another seat after vote recount

LODHRAN: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) clinched one more National Assembly seat after a vote recount in NA-154 Lodhran, ARY News reported. As per details, the Returning Officer (RO) ordered the recounting of votes on request of PML-N Abdul Rahman Kanju’s request. After the recount of votes, the PML-N candidate emerged victorious with a lead of 7301 votes against independent candidate Rana Faraz Noon. New govt to take ‘difficult decisions’, says PML-N leader

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Senator Afnanullah hinted that the upcoming federal government led by his party would take difficult decisions. UAE removed from FATF’s global money laundering list

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) said on Friday that it had removed the United Arab Emirates from its “grey list” of countries subject to increased monitoring, while Kenya and Namibia were added. Countries on the list have “strategic deficiencies” in their efforts to counter money laundering and terrorist financing, but are cooperating with the global anti-money laundering watchdog to correct the problems and are subject to increased monitoring. FATF head Raja Kumar said that Kenya and Namibia suffered deficiencies in their anti-money laundering systems and that action plans had been developed to remedy them. A total of 21 nations are on the grey list. In addition to the UAE, Barbados, Gibraltar and Uganda were removed from the grey list. “They’ve all taken substantial steps to improve the anti-money laundering and countering financing of terrorism safety systems and address all items on their actions plans,” said Kumar. ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced names of successful candidates for the National Assembly’s (NA) reserved seats for minorities, ARY News reported on Friday. According to details, the electoral watchdog issued a notification regarding seven successful candidates for the National Assembly’s (NA) reserved seats for minorities. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) got four minority seats, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) two, and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) one. ISLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) high-level committee formed to probe into allegations of former Rawalpindi Commissioner recorded statements of District Returning Officers (DROs) and Returning Officers (ROs) of concerned constituencies, ARY News reported citing sources. As per details, the committee led by a senior member of the ECP recorded statements of DROs and RO of 13 National Assembly constituencies and 26 provincial assembly constituencies of Rawalpindi division. The sources privy to the development said that Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) also submitted the transcript of former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha’s presser, accusing ECP and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa of involvement in the ‘election rigging’. ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) demanded ‘empowered’ local governments in Sindh to join the coalition government in the centre led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N), ARY News reported. According to details, the MQM-P delegation headed by Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui met the PML-N leaders at Ishaq Dar’s residence to discuss matters related to government formation. ISLAMABAD: Ruling out any alliance with Imran Khan-led party, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday equated the differences with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to ‘mountains’ and said that they were not easy to overcome, ARY News reported. At least four dead, one injured after car rams into wall

At least four people lost their lives, one sustained injury after a speeding car lost control and crashed into a wall in Daska city on Saturday, ARY News reported. According to the rescue officials, the accident occurred near Cheema stop in Daska, where the vehicle carrying five occupants rammed into a wall, resulting in the four including two kids and a woman dead on the spot. After getting the information the police and rescue teams reached the spot and moved bodies to the hospital. ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decided to form a high-level committee to probe into the allegations of former Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatta, ARY News reported. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sultan Akram Raja presided over the ECP’s emergent meeting called in the wake of Commissioner Rawalpindi’s allegations. In a press statement after the meeting, the ECP said that the allegations of former Commissioner Rawalpindi were discussed.   It was decided that a committee led by a senior member of the ECP would be formed. The Secretary, special secretary, and Additional Director General of the law department would also be part of the committee. KARACHI: The city police have resolved the murder case involving a seven-year-old boy, named Abhan Mazhar, and arrested the alleged killer, who turned out to be his cousin, ARY News reported on Friday. In a statement, SSP Central Zeeshan Siddiqui said that 15-year-old cousin Sufyan confessed to killing Abhan – as both lived together in a house located in Federal B Area Block 16. Citing Sufyan’s confessional statement, the police officer claimed that the accused killed his cousin for making complaints to his father. “We had suspicion on the accused from the first day,” Siddiqui added.
