KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has formally requested the municipal commissioner to summon ‘mandatory’ Karachi City Council session, ARY News reported on Tuesday. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leaders Saifuddin Advocate and Qazi Sadruddin submitted a formal request to the municipal commissioner to summon Karachi City Council. KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought reply from the Centre and the Sindh government in the Medical & Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2023 case, ARY News reported on Monday. The SHC conducted the hearing of a petition challenging the Sindh government’s decision to conduct the MDCAT exams again after an inquiry into the alleged paper leak. The Sindh government’s lawyer apprised the SHC judge that the MDCAT exams will be conducted again in light of the recommendations by the inquiry committee. Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi remarked that case should be lodged against the perpetrator who leaked the paper. He observed that cases would also be filed on the accused students. He added that the court could not disturb 40,000 students due to seven petitioners. The Customs intelligence detected a Rs3.5 tax fraud in a company namely HSJI that cleared steel bars by deceiving Customs Collector Hyderabad without paying the taxes and duties. KARACHI: A labourer was killed and two others sustained injuries in a deadly fire that erupted at a cotton godown in Karachi on Tuesday, ARY News reported. A cotton godown caught fire in Karachi’s SITE area, leaving a labourer dead and two injured. Police said that the firefighters doused the fire at the godown and the cooling process was underway. Police told the media that there was no major financial loss in the fire incident, however, a labourer lost his life and two sustained injuries. A mild earthquake of 3.1 magnitude on the Richter Scale jolted different areas of Karachi – the capital of Sindh province – on Monday night. According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre Islamabad, the depth of the quake was recorded at 15 kilometres and the epicentre was near the Quaidabad area of Karachi. The areas where tremors were felt include Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Cattle Colony, different areas of Malir District, Quaidabad, Shah Latif Town, Sherpao Colony, Landhi, Muzaffarabad Colony, Muslimabad Colony, Steel Town and their adjoining areas.
