The supplies — which include trauma and emergency kits — are enough to cover the basic needs of more than 200,000 people, provide 3,500 surgical procedures and treat 6,500 trauma patients, WHO added. “After days of non-stop work to find a solution [...] we have now been able to partially replenish stocks of health facilities in Afghanistan,” WHO

North Korea appears to have restarted nuclear reactor: UN agency

SEOUL: Nuclear-armed North Korea appears to have restarted its plutonium-producing reprocessing reactor in a “deeply troubling” development, the UN atomic agency has said, a possible sign Pyongyang is expanding its banned weapons programme. The development on the 5-megawatt reactor in Yongbyon — North Korea’s main nuclear complex — comes with nuclear talks between Pyongyang and Washington at a standstill. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un offered to dismantle part of the Yongbyon complex at a second summit with then US president Donald Trump but not other sites, in exchange for sanctions relief, and his offer was rejected. North Korea is under multiple sets of international sanctions over its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programmes, which have seen rapid progress under Kim. “Since early July, there have been indications, including the discharge of cooling water, consistent with the operation of the reactor,” the International Atomic Energy Agency said in its annual report.

PIA awaiting Afghan permission to resume flights

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan International Airlines, the only commercial airline that conducted flights from Kabul since the Taliban takeover of the Afghan capital to different cities of Afghanistan, has put on hold its operations and is waiting for Afghan authorities’ permission to resume flights to Kabul, Mazar-i-Sharif and other cities. A spokesman for PIA confirmed that the national flag carrier had received requests from seven to eight thousand people who wanted to leave Afghanistan but due to uncertain security and administration situation at Kabul airport, the PIA could not operate flights to Afghanistan’s capital. “There are no ATC, radar and other facilities to operate commercial flights to Kabul and, therefore, the PIA flights have been placed on hold,

PDM rallies to cause hike in Covid cases: FM Qureshi

MULTAN: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says the government is not at all worried over ‘out-of-season’ public gatherings of the Pakistan Democratic Movement but certainly concerned that these rallies may lead to spread of coronavirus. “The opposition could hold its public gatherings once the pandemic is over,” he suggested while talking to different delegations who called on him here on Sunday, says a press release. Mr Qureshi said all movements of the opposition against the PTI government had failed during the last three years and their fresh and future initiatives would meet the same fate as well. “Where are those who were on roads to get the resignation of Prime Minister Imran khan?” he asked. He said the country was on the path to progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan and the opposition propaganda could not stop this journey.
